Whether it is called vehicle infrastructure integration (VII) as it is in the United States, or cooperative vehicle infrastructure systems (CVIS) in Europe, it reflects a cooperative effort among national, regional, and local departments of transport and automobile and in-vehicle equipment manufacturers to save lives, improve traffic flow, and increase energy efficiency. Around the world, these partners are working together to evaluate the technical, economic, and socio/political feasibility of deploying a communications infrastructure whose purpose is to achieve dramatic improvements in the safety and efficiency of the surface transportation system. As part of this evaluation of the feasibility of VII/CVIS, the International Benefits, Evaluation and Costs (IBEC) Working Group will sponsor a workshop in four parts.
VII/VIC activities, potential VII/VIC partnerships or evaluation approaches and a look to future transportation with VII fully deployed.
