IBEC Workshop: Vehicle Infrastructure Integration/Vehicle Infrastructure Cooperation: Dream or Reality and How to Tell the Difference - A Workshop in Four Parts It is a concept that goes by many names: vehicle infrastructure integration (VII ) in the United States, cooperative systems (CS) in Europe. Around the world, these partners are working together to evaluate the technical, economic, and socio/political feasibility of deploying a communications system whose purpose is to achieve dramatic improvements in the safety and efficiency of the surface transportation system. There has been much speculation about the projected impacts of VI /CS and many futuristic scenarios have been presented. The first session will be an introduction to VI /VIC activities being conducted around the world, focusing on Europe, Japan, and the U.S. The second session will be a facilitated discussion on VI /CS deployment challenges and how these challenges can be overcome. In the third session, experts from the ITS evaluation community will present the latest findings from evaluations being conducted around the world on exactly what are the benefits and costs of VI /CS . The fourth session will consist of a facilitated discussion on how to share information internationally on VI /CS activities and evaluation results.
ITS America’s State Chapters Council Meeting and Chapter Strengthening Workshop ITS America’s State Chapters Council will host this workshop to provide members of its state and regional chapters with information and strategies to achieve their maximum potential. U.S. Department of Transportation to Launch “Safe Trip-21” at the 15th World Congres on ITS SafeTrip-21 is a first-phase demonstration of work done by the U.S. Department of transportation in support of Vehicle Infrastructure Integration. The U.S. DOT has partnered with the California Department of Transportation to establish the initial SafeTrip-21 test site in the San Francisco Bay area. As part of the 11th Avenue Theater Show, SafeTrip-21 will show how new readily available wireless technologies can be used to improve vehicle and pedestrian safety. SafeTrip-21 will demonstrate how ITS technologies can improve safety and enhance the travel experience using readily available wireless communications devices. Delegates will have a unique hands-on opportunity to experience these interactive communications technologies on the VI Testbed in Manhattan. Tickets can be purchased at the registration area. |
